The project RedMarLitter BSB552 “Innovative Techniques and Methods for Reducing Marine Litter in the Black Sea Coastal Areas” is implemented under priority 2.2. “Awareness Raising and Joint Actions for Reducing River and Marine Litter” of the Joint Operational Programme “Black Sea Basin 2014-2020”. Partners from Bulgaria (Via Pontica Foundation, Burgas Municipality), Romania (University of Constanta) and Georgia (Tbilisi State University) joined forces to make a lasting change in the way marine litter is treated. The project started in the second half of August 2018 and will last for 30 months until February 2021. Its main objective is to reduce pollution of the Black Sea basin by tracking and analyzing the main waste streams and carrying out pilot activities to clean pre-defined areas of marine litter. A computerized map will also be developed during implementation to provide for waste movements, a Hot Spot Identification Method and Guidelines for Environmentally Friendly Marine Litter Management will be developed as well. Cross-border cleaning campaigns will be organized.
