Child's Heart Association (CHA) is a non-profit organization in Bulgaria. The association was established in 1990. It unites people bound with the problems of children and young people suffering from cardiac disease – parents, pediatric cardiologists, psychologists, lawyers and everyone else who might be interested in these children’s problems and is willing to volunteer his gratuitous help. The association was created to meet the needs of a considerable part of Bulgarian children and their families. The transition of our country towards and open democratic society has been accompanied with the rise of social phenomena such as poverty, unemployment and alienation. These enforced the establishment of our association, which was brought to life to support all children who due to their illness are deprived of an equal chance and start in their life. It is quite well known that heart disease leads to prolonged isolation and a number of psychosocial complications, which impede the social integration of children and their families. The main objective of our association is to improve the quality of life of children with heart disease not only through highly qualified modern treatment, but also with highly qualified psychological and legal consultations.
